About Us

Métronome Technologie was founded in 1987 by a small group of music and hi-fi enthusiasts who shared a single conviction: that recorded music could sound truer than it usually does. Nearly forty years later, that conviction still drives everything we design.

Every Métronome and Kalista product is conceived, engineered and hand-assembled at our workshop in Montans, near Toulouse, in the south of France. We build CD and SACD players, digital-to-analog converters, network streamers and music servers — nothing is outsourced, and nothing leaves Montans until it has been listened to, not just measured.

Our motto, Le Son Vrai — the true sound — is not a marketing line. It is the standard every prototype is held to before it becomes a product: does it bring back the emotion, the grain, the air of the original recording, or does it merely reproduce numbers correctly? We would rather build a device that makes you forget the equipment and remember the music.

Two brands live under our roof. Métronome is our founding brand, built for music lovers who want reference-level sound without compromise on reliability or long-term support. Kalista is our flagship — objects conceived with fewer constraints, for listeners who want the absolute best we know how to build, whatever it takes to get there.

We remain a small, independent company by choice. It lets us spend the time a great-sounding product actually needs, and it means the people who design our converters are the same people who answer the phone when a distributor calls.
